What is a class action settlement?

A class action is a lawsuit in which a group of individuals sue a company or other entity on behalf of all other people who are in a similar position. Collectively, these people are referred to as a "Class" or "Class Members." You may be a Class Member in a lawsuit without even knowing it if you meet the definition of a Class Member as approved by the Court. This website will help you find out if you are a Class Member.

Class Members are represented by attorneys, even if they don't know it. Often, your attorneys will settle class action lawsuits on your behalf while they take a percentage of the settlement amount. The Class Members typically do not receive any award until they make a claim for it. By law, the attorneys must attempt to notify all Class Members that they may be eligible to make such a claim by a specific deadline but they are not always successful in getting the word out.
